Meet Our Math Tutors
A family of three siblings — all NUS Mathematics graduates — who personally teach every class at Math Academy. No outsourced tutors. No rotating staff.
Every class is led by Jolyn Ang, Ian Ang or Raine Ang
All three studied Mathematics at NUS
We only teach Secondary and JC H2 Maths — nothing else
A Tuition Centre Built on One Principle
We started Math Academy because we believed students deserved more than a large classroom and a tutor they’d never spoken to. All three of us studied Mathematics at NUS — not engineering, not science — pure Mathematics. This has always been our focus, and it shapes everything about the way we teach.
We keep classes small because we genuinely care about each student’s progress. Not as a marketing line — but because that’s the only way to actually help a child improve.
The Three Tutors Behind Math Academy
Each of us focuses on a specific level — so your child is always taught by the right specialist.
Sec 3 & 4 · E Maths and A Maths
Ms Jolyn Ang
Founder · 20 Years Experience
Credentials
At a glance
- 20 years teaching Secondary E Maths and A Maths
- Former MOE teacher with deep insight into how O Level papers are set
- Author of a copyrighted set of lecture notes used exclusively at Math Academy
- Questions grouped by key focus area — removes exam ambiguity for students
- Class sizes kept small for individual progress monitoring
- Founder of Math Academy
Ms Jolyn is the founder of Math Academy and has 20 years of experience teaching Secondary E Maths and A Maths. As a former MOE teacher trained at NIE, she has accumulated deep insight into how national exam papers are set — and she uses that knowledge directly in class to give students a real competitive edge.
Her classes are built around a set of copyrighted lecture notes she developed herself, where each chapter’s questions are organised by key focus area. This structure removes the ambiguity students typically struggle with, replacing it with systematic problem-solving that builds genuine confidence. She engages students through Inquiry Based Learning, keeps class sizes deliberately small, and remains closely involved in every student’s progress.
JC1 & JC2 · H2 Mathematics
Mr Ian Ang
Co-founder · 10 Years Experience
Credentials
At a glance
- First Class Honours in Pure Mathematics from NUS — top 3–5% of cohort
- Multiple Dean’s List recipient at NUS
- Perfect L1R5 of 6 points at O Levels with 7 A1s
- A grades for both H2 Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A Levels
- Over 10 years leading JC H2 Maths classes and curating teaching materials
- Co-founder of Math Academy
Mr Ian holds a First Class Honours in Pure Mathematics from NUS — awarded to the top 3–5% of the cohort — and was invited to conduct mathematical research at Caltech in the USA. Despite coming from neighbourhood schools (Bukit Panjang Govt High and Anderson JC), his results were the product of a disciplined, systematic approach to learning that now shapes every set of notes his students receive.
In his H2 Maths classes, Ian focuses on helping students recognise question types, apply structured thinking under exam conditions, and approach unfamiliar problems without panic. Notes and tutorials are updated each year to reflect current A Level trends. Closer to the A Level examinations, a weekly topical revision class consolidates all key concepts — with students consistently achieving A grades or a 3–4 grade improvement.
Secondary 1 to 4 · Lower Secondary Maths · Elementary Mathematics
Ms Raine Ang
Head Tutor · 15 Years Experience
Credentials
At a glance
- 15 years of experience in Secondary Mathematics
- Class sizes capped at 7 — the smallest at Math Academy, by design
- Covers Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry for G3
- Nurturing, personal approach — every student’s progress closely tracked
- Students leave not just understanding Maths, but genuinely enjoying it
- Head Tutor at Math Academy
Ms Raine is the Head Tutor for Lower Secondary Mathematics at Math Academy. With 15 years of experience and a personal, nurturing teaching style, she ensures that every Sec 1 and 2 student builds the mathematical foundation they need — not just to pass their exams, but to progress confidently into Upper Secondary and beyond.
She keeps class sizes at a maximum of 7 students so that she can closely track each student’s understanding, address individual concerns promptly, and create an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes. Her teaching goes beyond problem-solving — she guides students to identify patterns, learn from errors, and develop strategies they carry forward. Her students often share that they come to genuinely enjoy Maths under her guidance.
Why Small Classes Make the Difference
Every student is known by name, by strength, and by what they still need to work on.
Lower Sec
Maximum 7 students in Ms Raine’s Sec 1 and 2 classes. The closest individual attention we offer.
Upper Sec & JC
Maximum 9 students per class for E Maths, A Maths and JC H2 Maths.
Combined Experience
Jolyn, Ian and Raine bring over 45 years of combined teaching experience in Secondary and JC Mathematics.
Subjects Covered
Mathematics only. We don’t spread ourselves thin across subjects. Maths is all we do.
