Meet Our Math Tutors
A family who personally teach every class at Math Academy. Every tutor is an NUS Mathematics graduate or an MOE trained teacher. No outsourced tutors. No rotating staff.
Every class is led by Ian Ang, Yvette Ang or Raine Ang
Every tutor is an NUS Mathematics graduate or an MOE trained teacher
We only teach Secondary and JC H2 Maths, nothing else
A Tuition Centre Built on One Principle
We started Math Academy because we believed students deserved more than a big classroom and a tutor they had never spoken to. We are a family, and we teach every class ourselves. The teacher’s name you see on this website is exactly who stands in front of your child every week, this year and the next.
We keep classes small because that is the only way to genuinely know every student. Not as a marketing line, but because that is how a child actually improves.
The Three Tutors Behind Math Academy
Each of us focuses on a specific level, so your child is always taught by the right specialist.
JC1 & JC2 · H2 Mathematics · Sec 3 & 4 A Maths
Mr Ian Ang
Co-founder · 10+ Years Experience
Credentials
At a glance
- First Class Honours in Pure Mathematics from NUS, top 3 to 5% of cohort
- Multiple Dean’s List recipient at NUS
- Perfect L1R5 of 6 points at O Levels with 7 A1s
- A grades for both H2 Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A Levels
- Over 10 years teaching A Maths and JC H2 Maths at Math Academy
- Leads all Sec 3 and 4 A Maths and JC H2 Maths classes
- Co-founder of Math Academy
Mr Ian holds a First Class Honours in Pure Mathematics from NUS, awarded to the top 3 to 5% of the cohort, and was invited to conduct mathematical research at Caltech in the USA. Despite coming from neighbourhood schools (Bukit Panjang Govt High and Anderson JC), his results were the product of a disciplined, systematic approach to learning that now shapes every set of notes his students receive.
In his H2 Maths classes, Ian focuses on helping students recognise question types, apply structured thinking under exam conditions, and approach unfamiliar problems without panic. Notes and tutorials are updated each year to reflect current A Level trends. Closer to the A Level examinations, a weekly topical revision class consolidates all key concepts, and students consistently achieve A grades or improve by 3 to 4 grades.
Alongside his JC classes, Mr Ian has taught A Maths at Math Academy for years, and he leads all our Sec 3 and 4 A Maths classes. A Maths is not taught in isolation here: every technique is taught by someone who knows precisely how it resurfaces at H2 level, and students who continue to JC keep the same tutor, the same methods, and the same standards from Sec 3 all the way through.
Secondary 1 & 2 · Mathematics
Mrs Yvette Ang
Educator · Former MOE Teacher
Credentials
At a glance
- Former MOE teacher and MOE Teaching Award recipient
- Teaches Secondary 1 and 2 Mathematics
- Lively, interactive classes where students ask questions freely
- Tracks each student closely and steps in early when confidence slips
- Teaches alongside Ms Raine Ang in our Lower Secondary team
Mrs Yvette Ang is a former MOE teacher and a recipient of the MOE Teaching Award, the Ministry of Education’s teaching scholarship. She teaches our Secondary 1 and 2 Maths classes, and she brings the kind of classroom warmth that makes younger students want to show up. Lessons with Mrs Ang are interactive and lively. Students ask questions freely, mistakes are treated as part of learning, and nobody gets left at the back of the room.
The first two years of secondary school shape how a student feels about Maths for the next four. Mrs Ang takes that seriously. She tracks each student closely, celebrates the small wins, and steps in early when confidence starts to slip.
Secondary 1 to 4 · Lower Secondary Maths · Elementary Mathematics
Ms Raine Ang
Co-founder · 15 Years Experience
Credentials
At a glance
- 15 years of experience in Secondary Mathematics
- Class sizes capped at 7, the smallest at Math Academy, by design
- Covers Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry for G3
- Nurturing, personal approach with every student’s progress closely tracked
- Students leave not just understanding Maths, but genuinely enjoying it
- Co-founder of Math Academy
Ms Raine, a co-founder of Math Academy, teaches Lower Secondary Mathematics. With 15 years of experience and a personal, nurturing teaching style, she ensures that every Sec 1 and 2 student builds the mathematical foundation they need, not just to pass their exams, but to progress confidently into Upper Secondary and beyond.
She keeps class sizes at a maximum of 7 students so that she can closely track each student’s understanding, address individual concerns promptly, and create an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes. Her teaching goes beyond problem-solving. She guides students to identify patterns, learn from errors, and develop strategies they carry forward. Her students often share that they come to genuinely enjoy Maths under her guidance.
