From NIE trained ex school teacher to NUS math first class honours graduate, Math Academy is run by a family of 3 sibings. All classes are taught by the 3 of us and we are committed to improve your or your child’s grades. All 3 of us specialize only in Mathematics, and had previously graduated from NUS, major in Mathematics. (Not engineering or other sciences!)
Our speciality lies in Secondary Maths tuition and JC H2 math tuition. We are an exclusive maths tuition centre that specialises only in Mathematics, from secondary to JC. We are extremely familiar with the concepts and techniques required to do well in O and A levels, and we prepare our JC H2 math tuition and A Maths tuition classes towards achieving a top grade.
We have always maintained a small class size. With a max of 7 students for lower sec and 9 students for upper sec and JC, we want to uphold our philosophy to guide and help as many students as we can. With a small class size, we ensure that we provide sufficient attention to each and every student.
We have seen many batches of students go through National O and A level examinations and understand what is best for them to do well.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education, PGDE (with Credit), National Institute of Education (NIE) (Specialisation in teaching Mathematics at Secondary School Level)
- Bachelor of Science , B.Sc (with Merit),Major in Applied Mathematics, National University of Singapore (NUS)
- Former MOE secondary school teacher
As the founder of Math Academy tuition centre, Ms Jolyn has 20 years of experience in teaching Secondary E Maths and A Maths tuition. She graduated from NUS with a degree in Applied Mathematics, and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, specialising in teaching Mathematics at Secondary level.
With her strong mathematical background (an NUS degree in Mathematics), she is able to articulate the various Mathematical nuances in a simplified manner. Ms Ang teaches her classes with her own set of copyrighted lecture notes. In each chapter, 3-4 key focus areas have been identified and questions belonging to the same key focus area has been grouped. During class, students are then trained to look at the various problems belonging to the same focus area. In this way, it instils confidence in the students’ problem solving ability and takes away the ambiguity that students often struggle with. This set of effective and concise lecture notes is a key companion to students journey towards the national exams.
As former MOE school teacher, Ms Jolyn Ang has accumulated vast experience in setting examination papers. Together with a diligent analysis of the yearly O Level markers’ report, she knows exactly how to score well at the national examinations. During classes, Ms Ang tackles problem by listing down step by step problem solving techniques, with an emphasis of getting key points that are required to get marks awarded. This complete teaching method is the main reason why students at Math Academy can gain a competitive edge over their peers.
Ms Ang is patient and committed to ensure every child’s learning progress is monitored. Because of this meticulous approach to ensure individual success, her class size has always been kept small. She also engages students in Inquiry Based Learning and adopts a variety of methods to help students handle examination questions. The sheer number of students whom Ms Ang teaches every year is a strong testament to her effectiveness in improving the results of her students.
- First Class Honours, Major in Pure Mathematics, National University of Singapore (NUS)
- Awarded only to top 3-5% of the cohort
- Bachelor of Science , B.Sc, Major in Pure Mathematics, National University of Singapore (NUS)
- Multiple Dean’s List Recipient at NUS (an award given to the top 5% of each cohort, with meritorious academic achievement)
- Awarded the prestigious Undergraduate Research Fellowship at California Institute of Technology (Caltech, USA)
- Conducted Mathematical research on Graph Theory in USA, in an all expenses paid research stint in collaboration with professors from Caltech.
- Perfect raw score of 6 points at O levels, with A’s in all Math subjects at the national O and A level Exams
Mr Ian Ang has 10 years of experience, specializing in JC H2 Maths tuition. He has achieved academic excellence throughout his education years, scoring straight A’s at O levels with a raw score of 6 points, achieving 7 A1’s in the process. He also scored straight A’s at A Levels, including Mathematics and Further Mathematics. He capped off his perfect academic results with a First Class Honours in Pure Mathematics at NUS and has also been placed on the Dean’s list.
Despite graduating from neighbourhood schools (Ian is an alumnus of Bukit Panjang Govt High and Anderson Junior College), Mr Ian Ang’s excellent academic results is not by chance. With his unique problem solving techniques as well as the ability to spot examination trends and questions, Ian has been able to replicate this success not just in his own studies, but also helping his students to achieve stellar results.
His own success is now translated into a set of effective lecture notes and tutorials, for which the different key concepts are summarized into bite sized manner, alongside the various examination problem trends. Notes and questions are constantly updated to reflect the current examination climate. Mr Ang takes pride in explaining complex mathematical concepts in a simplified manner, and to drill students on the various examination problem types.
Nearer A level examinations, a weekly topical revision class is conducted to recap all key concepts and questions. This has proven to be a real success, with students taught by Mr Ian Ang either obtaining A’s or see a 3-4 grade improvement in the A level examinations.
- Bachelor of Science, Major in Applied Mathematics, National University of Singapore (NUS)
Ms Raine has 14 years of experience as a tutor in Mathematics. She has taught in groups as well as one-to-one tuition. She believes every student has the ability to excel if they are given enough attention and exposure. She drills the students through extensive practice thus reinforcing their concepts in every lesson. Her students are taught the most effective way in solving problems and identifying their mistakes so that they could take their skills to a higher level. She takes a personal approach in addressing the students’ concerns so that their progress can be monitored individually. In this way, she hopes to uncover the students’ potential and stretch it to the fullest.
