Learn Right, from The Expert
Founder of Math Academy tuition centre, Ms Jolyn Ang is a former MOE school teacher with 20 years of teaching experience. She has graduated from NUS with a degree in Mathematics, and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, specialising in teaching Math at Secondary School level.
Being one of the very few tuition centres that keep to an extremely small class size of only 9 a class (maximum), Ms Jolyn pays close attention to each and every individual students to ensure success in their Secondary Math journey.
With her experience in setting examinations whilst at MOE, Ms Jolyn has a broad and comprehensive understanding of the demands and trends in a Math Examination paper. In addition, the yearly O Levels Marker’s report has been analysed, and this provides an even clearer understanding of what examiners are looking for when awarding marks at the O Levels. She has observed and analysed that students who struggle in A Maths tend to fall into the following 2 broad cateogories:
1) Students who are unable to contend with the ambiguity and uncertainties in Math questions
2) Students who did not build up a solid foundation in algebra whilst in lower secondary
The curriculum at Math Academy has been designed to address these issues. Having graduated from NUS with a degree in Mathematics, students have benefited from Ms Jolyn’s strengths in identifying the various Mathematical nuances. In Jolyn’s classes, the entire A Maths Syllabus of 19 chapters has been broken down into bite-sized, easy-to-learn lecture notes. Each chapter has been further identified to contain 3-4 key focus areas. Regardless of their academic background or foundation, the structured syllabus is designed with the intention of helping students build the necessary foundation and excel in the subject.
Students are taught to look out for various keywords and to answer questions in systematic steps. Examination questions from different schools and national exams are constantly compiled and updated, exposing students to wide variety question set and instil confidence for the exams. Weekly worksheets are designed such that students are able to gain a complete mastery of the topic, having seen the various exam question format and techniques required. This provides students of Math Academy with a strong competitive edge when it comes to the national exams.
Ms Ang’s dedication in improving the results of the students goes beyond just the preparation of the materials. She engages students in inquiry-based-learning, asking guiding questions to trigger and kickstart the analytical process of solving Math. The weekly worksheets are also marked, and this allows for each and every students’ ability to be assessed, identifying issues and correcting them on a weekly basis. A small class of an average of just 6 students, Ms Jolyn is able to provide close individual attention and help students improve.

Weekly A Maths Tuition for Express
Marking of Weekly homework
Ms Jolyn Ang will personally go through every single step in the student’s homework. She will mark and review their mistakes individually and explain the correct solution for the questions. We don’t spoon feed students. We make them think through the necessary steps and understand them. Through our experience, this is the best way to do mathematics.
Small group tuition
Under the guidance of ex-MOE teacher Ms Jolyn Ang, students will benefit from the structured syllabus taught in class. Furthermore, our A maths tuition classes will only take in a maximum of 9 students. The personalized approach gives each and every student the required attention.
Notes that are concise and precise
We take pride in our copyrighted notes. Summarized concepts, exposure to a variety of examination problems. That’s what our notes is all about.
Analysis of past year O Levels marker’s report
We analyse the markers’ report from UCLES and understand the key points for the different question types. We understand what they are looking out for, and pass on these details to our students.
Conduct short tests
From our knowledge of the past year marker’s report, we select appropriate test questions for the students. After attempting the questions within the stipulated time, we review their presentation. Every mistake will be addressed with respect to the O levels marking scheme.
Identification of keywords
This is especially important for weaker students, who have difficulty identifying the key concepts in each question. We teach students to identify keywords and highlight their importance. This identification allows students to cross-link concepts and formulae from different chapters. It speeds up their thinking process, an important skill especially during examination.
Online Portal
Students enrolled with us will be given access to the online portal. Weekly lessons are recorded and uploaded to the online portal, where students can re-watch and refresh these concepts closer to the exams.
Video solutions to all worksheet solutions has also been recorded. Now you can prepare for your exams with ease, re-watching any lesson at your own pace.
Exposure of questions
Questions have been carefully selected to reflect the variety of problems in additional mathematics exams. We have analysed and broken down each chapter into its small parts, and all the different types of questions that can be seen in each part. Students are exposed to these questions and will be able to solve them quickly during exams. This saves precious time for them to solve those `unseen’ type of questions during O levels.
What can you expect from the class?
Classes are 2 hours long.
In the first half of the lesson, Ms Jolyn Ang will be teaching the topic, using her own set of notes. No pre-learning from school is required.
These notes are a culmination of years of efforts, summarizing the key concepts and examination questions, presented in a concise manner.
In the second half of the lesson, students will be provided with worksheets relevant to the teachings of that lesson.
These questions reflect the trend of examination questions in recent years, carefully selected from schools’ examination papers.
Students are expected to complete them before the next lesson.
Ms Ang will be marking their work, carefully writing down the mistakes and clarifying doubts with the students.
Together with Ms Ang’s dedication in marking every single piece of homework, students, in return, are expected to work doubly hard.
