Experienced Additional Maths Tutor with MOE Background
Ms Jolyn Ang, co-founder of Math Academy, is a former MOE-trained teacher with over 20 years of experience in teaching Mathematics. A graduate of the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a degree in Mathematics, she also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, specialising in Secondary Math education. Her lifelong passion for the subject drives her mission to help students succeed in Additional Mathematics.
Structured and Comprehensive A Maths Curriculum
At Math Academy, the entire A Maths syllabus—comprising 19 chapters—is carefully broken down into manageable, bite-sized segments. Each chapter is further divided into 3 to 4 key focus areas, making it easier for students to absorb complex concepts. This approach ensures that students in both Sec 3 Maths tuition and Sec 4 Maths tuition classes build a solid foundation before progressing to more advanced topics.
Deep Understanding of Exam Trends and O-Level Requirements
Drawing from her experience setting exam papers at MOE and her regular analysis of the O-Level Marker’s Reports, Ms Jolyn has a deep understanding of how marks are awarded and how students can secure them. Her insights into national examination trends allow her to tailor her Additional Maths tuition curriculum effectively to meet the latest assessment standards.
Exam-Oriented Practice and Proven Problem-Solving Techniques
Problem-solving is at the heart of mastering Additional Mathematics. Students are trained in proven answering techniques—such as identifying keywords and breaking down questions into systematic steps. Weekly worksheets feature handpicked questions from past national and school exams, giving students an edge in mastering the O-Level question styles and improving time management during exams.
Targeted Support for Common A Maths Challenges
Through years of observation, Ms Jolyn has identified two major challenges students face in A Maths:
- A weak foundation in algebra from lower secondary
- Difficulty in understanding questions and applying the right mathematical concepts
Her Sec 3 and Sec 4 A Maths tuition classes are specifically structured to address these issues through a step-by-step teaching methodology that reinforces both conceptual understanding and application.
Personalised Teaching in a Small-Class Setting
Ms Jolyn’s A Maths tuition classes are conducted in small groups to allow close guidance and personalised feedback. She adopts an inquiry-based teaching approach, encouraging students to think critically through guiding questions. All students are required to submit weekly worksheets, which she personally marks to identify errors, provide feedback, and reinforce learning. This tight feedback loop allows for consistent progress and targeted intervention where needed.
