Sec 2 Maths: Congruent & Similar Triangles practice questions with worked solutions
Congruence and similarity questions from 2025 Singapore Secondary 2 End-of-Year papers. Every part comes with a full step-by-step worked solution that states the reasons.
About this topic & key facts
Two figures are congruent when they have exactly the same shape and size, and similar when they have the same shape but one is an enlargement of the other. In Secondary 2 Mathematics, the key skill is reading the order of the letters: when is similar or congruent to , matches , matches and matches , and that tells you which sides and angles correspond.
The questions below start with reading off corresponding sides and angles of congruent figures, then move to similar triangles, where corresponding sides share one scale factor. The last question combines similarity with a quadratic equation. For guided lessons on this chapter, see our Sec 2 Maths tuition.
Key facts
- Congruent figures: corresponding sides are equal and corresponding angles are equal.
- Similar figures: corresponding angles are equal and corresponding sides are in the same ratio, .
- Scale factor: the common ratio of corresponding lengths; perimeters are in the same ratio.
- Letter order: the order in the statement ( similar to ) gives the matching vertices.
- Parallel lines: equal alternate or corresponding angles show that two lines are parallel.
